A little bit about you this month...
• You are officially walking. It was gradual - for a few weeks, you were perfectly capable of walking on your own but preferred to have a finger to hold on to, but now you are tooling around by yourself and are loving your newfound freedom!
• You sometimes try to run... and then you fall on your face. When you fall (from running or otherwise), you don't really get upset but lay flat like a pancake with this look on your face like, "I have no idea what happened, but I'm going to lay here and think about it for a minute." It cracks me up!
• You like to try and walk backward. You think this is hilarious.
• You have the best, most infectious laugh. It is slow, low, and you laugh with your whole gut.
• You love to crawl over things - legs or railings of a chair, pillows on the floor, our legs. If there is anything in your way, you bowl right over it.
• You try to put headbands on.
• Everything is a necklace - your blanket, a scarf, dish towels. You throw your blankie over your shoulders and wrap yourself up when you're sleepy.
• You love to stomp, especially in the bath. If we say, "Stomp, stomp, stomp!" you grin mischievously and stomp your left foot.
• Your favorite place to be is on Daddy's back in the backpack. If you're cranky, he can throw you in there and putz around and you are happy to be towed along.
• If you spot Dada and he walks away from you, you wander around saying, "Dada? Daadaaaaaaa?"
• You pretend to call him on the phone.
• You also love to pretend to whisk and stir in a bowl with the play kitchen.
• You love books! Throughout the day, I can periodically find you "reading" a book.
• Your favorite is still The Belly Button Book by Sandra Boynton. No matter where it gets placed on the bookshelf, you will find it and pull it down every morning.
• You also still love Tails by Matthew Van Fleet. You point out the animals and laugh, saying "Dat! Dis!" Your favorite is the panda bear.
• You do not like sharing my lap. If your sister comes and sits with me, you will come over and yank her hair, then crawl onto my lap in between us.
• You love anything with wheels - specifically toy cars or steering wheels. We went to the pumpkin patch for the first time at the end of September, and you went straight to the huge pedal cars and wanted up. Then you sat there and happily drove the car while Mommy pedaled.
• You love to push your hippo car around the house.
• Your favorite toy is your Squigz.
• You play very well alone. You check out your toys, your books, and the ottoman, then periodically check in and go right back to exploring.
• You make kissing noises.
• You blow kisses and say, "Muah!" This is my favorite thing you've started doing this month.
• You also love to give kisses! "Muuuuu-ah!"
• You love to swing.
• One of your new words this month is "Outside" (ow-sigh!) - you love to be on the deck, and of course you beeline for the stairs. You point out the window and say, "Ow-sigh! Ow-sigh!" You love to laugh and watch our puppies and the neighbor's puppies from the deck, or watch sister jump on the trampoline.
• Other new words this month: Banana (Nana), More (mo!), Yah (nods and slowly says "Yaaaaaah"), Got it, and Shoes (sooooooze!)
• You babble in what sounds like sentences. There was one night when you obviously didn't feel well, and you kept standing up and talking to us over the monitor in a sad voice instead of going to bed, which is not like you. Daddy and I both decided it sounded like you were trying to tell us something!
• You love bananas! You saw me eating a banana and yelled, "NANA!" You toddled over saying Nana and whined until I gave you some.
• You still love green vegetables, especially broccoli. You like most any food we serve you.
• Except you do not like any sort of tomato-based product (tomatoes, marinara, stewed tomato-based soup).
• You are obsessed with shoes. Now that you are walking, we went to look at some hard-soled shoes at Target (I didn't have any hand-me-downs in a 4). We went down the shoe aisle and you got really excited, saying "Soooooze!" When you picked out a pair you liked, we tried them on and you start kicking and laughing and wouldn't give them back!
• You are a very busy, happy girl and we love you so much! Lily tells people, "This is my baby sister Emma. She is the cutest baby in the world!"
